Greater Depth. Greater Consistency. More Time to Teach.

BeastCampus is developing LinguaBeasts to combine faculty expertise with AI-assisted essay analysis—helping colleges strengthen writing instruction and make better use of instructional time.

Evaluating student writing requires attention to many things at once: the assignment, the reading, the rubric, the student’s argument, and the language that carries it. LinguaBeasts brings those elements together in a shared assessment framework. Our goal is to give instructors a comprehensive preliminary analysis they can review, refine, and turn into meaningful instruction.

AI-assisted assessment is under development. Its potential benefits require evaluation, and faculty always own final grades.

Reason 1 · Depth

A Broader View of Every Essay

Even an experienced instructor has limited time to examine every dimension of every essay. LinguaBeasts is designed to support that work with an extensive framework of grammar, usage, and writing principles.

Our Grammar Gremlins give recognizable names to recurring language problems, creating a shared vocabulary for identifying, explaining, and addressing them. Alongside those principles, the assessment framework can incorporate assignment-specific expectations for reasoning, organization, evidence, and engagement with a reading.

The aim is comprehensive analysis that helps instructors identify patterns, select priorities, and explain what students can do next.

Reason 2 · Consistency

Shared Standards. Faculty Judgment.

Consistency begins with a clear framework. By analyzing essays against explicit criteria, LinguaBeasts is designed to help instructors and departments apply shared expectations across students, sections, and courses.

The instructor remains responsible for the assessment. Faculty review the analysis, evaluate its interpretation, and determine the final grade and feedback. They bring the knowledge of their students, the context of the course, and the judgment needed to distinguish a recurring error from an intentional stylistic choice.

AI contributes analytical breadth. Faculty give that analysis its instructional purpose.

Reason 3 · Efficiency

Less Time on Initial Assessment. More Time for Students.

LinguaBeasts brings together the assignment, rubric, relevant reading, and student essay to support a preliminary assessment grounded in the work students were actually asked to do.

Instead of beginning every assessment from a blank page, instructors can begin with proposed findings and feedback to examine. They can confirm useful observations, correct mistaken ones, and focus their attention on the student’s most important next steps.

Where this process reduces assessment time, colleges gain options: more individual feedback, additional conferences, more opportunities for revision, or greater teaching capacity.

For colleges, the potential benefit extends across educational quality and instructional cost: more consistent assessment, faculty attention to the writing patterns that matter, and freed instructional time that could reduce the cost of serving each student. Those benefits deserve measurement—a pilot can compare instructor review time, the accuracy and usefulness of feedback, consistency across assessments, and evidence of student progress.
